DBR - Deep Brain Reorienting
What is DBR - Deep Brain Reorienting?
DBR is a new trauma treatment that works on processing and diminishing the shock element of events, as well as processing the emotional and physiological sequelae. The treatment has been clinically validated and evidence based in the past couple of years and shows remarkable results for PTSD. For those who have worked on the significant symptoms for many months or even years and have not seen their symptoms reduce to a manageable degree, DBR may offer a new opportunity to process some of their symptoms (ie. flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, nightmares, body symptoms, avoidance behaviours, dissociation, depersonalisation and derealisation.)
"DBR aims to access and process traumatic experience by tracking the original sequence of physiological responses that occurred when the deep brain had been alerted to a threat or an attachment disruption."
By following a sequence, the shock element of a trauma event (which is registered within milliseconds) can be separated from the emotional and cognitive elements, thus reducing the likelihood of overwhelm as the client reflects on their experience.
DBR is a directive treatment that works best when the client can follow the therapist's directions and allow the therapist to remain in connection, helping the client move back and forth in and out of the shock and emotional processing where necessary. Although the client may be processing the trauma silently at their own pace, the therapist observes the client closely and enquires what is going on from time to time to ensure there is no overwhelm and that the client is processing.
At the end of session, the client is invited to share new perspectives and insights and we move to embody change and bring ourselves fully present.
You're welcome to contact me to enquire whether DBR may help you. Please see the below link to the DBR website and more information in the Resources section of this website.
