"What is coaching?"
  • Coaching is premised on the belief that clients hold resources for growth and these can be developed by coaching.
  • The process is deemed effective when the client achieves new understanding and creates lasting change.
  • It's a collaborative process of self understanding and changing by the client, and the relationship between coach and client is key.

"What is the difference between coaching, therapy and other helping relationships?"
  • Coaching is different from therapy or counselling. The focus is on working in the present moment, to create a different future.
  • In therapy the intention is usually to heal some painful psychological wound from our past, and involves revisiting those memories in some detail. In coaching, the past is used only to inform our work in the present, and whilst healing may occur, it is not the main aim.
  • Mentoring is a more directive approach, and is suited to those wanting guidance from an experienced supervisor.
  • In Coaching the intention is to work as equals. A coach is an unbiased person who will not just say what you want to hear, but will give you honest feedback with the intention of genuinely helping you reach your goals.

"What is the advantage of external coaching if I have been offered coaching at work by my manager?"
  • The advantage of working with an independent coach is that we work as a collaborative partnership in a very confidential space where trust can be built quickly. You set the goals and the agenda, no-one else is involved and nothing you say is reported back.

"How do I know it's professional coaching?"
  • There are many different types of coaching on offer, and anyone can call themselves a coach.
  • For this type of life changing work, it is important to work with a professional highly trained coach.
  • The coaching I offer is professional, ethical and underpinned by current theories and practices from Coaching, Psychology and Psychotherapy. I've trained to Masters Degree level, undertake regular CPD workshops, am in Supervised Practice, and I hold Professional Civil Liability Insurance.
  • I help clients from different cultural backgrounds, young adults, employed people, stay at home mothers, students, retired people, clients who are LGBTQ and adult survivors of childhood trauma.
