Coaching for Career Transitions

Coaching is very helpful when you realise you're not fulfilled by your current work, but don't know what to do about it.

It could be that you want to:
  • Receive support whilst managing a career transition
  • Gain promotion or recognition at work
  • Understand and work with some developmental feedback you have received in 360' feedback, or during your performance management process
  • Change job within your current profession
  • Returning to employment after a career break, illness, maternity leave or working to raise your family
  • Undertake a study or training programme
  • Change your career direction, possibly retraining for a second or third career
  • Understand why you don't feel fulfilled in your work and what you can do about it
  • Receive support to make difficult choices and decisions
  • Plan for retirement
  • Manage your time for self-development
  • Or if you are struggling with some difficult relationships at work.

As someone who retrained and changed career in her forties, I bring a depth of understanding to this area. After many years working in organisations, I retrained for a new career as a Coaching Psychologist. Studying whilst working full time, I know something about the difficulties in making changes in our work and personal life.

My psychology research for my Master's was in the 'Impostor Syndrome', a feeling some of us can get of not being as good as others think we are, and of imminent exposure as a fraud. When triggered, the feelings associated can be frightening and debilitating, and my research highlighted not only the difficulties, but also some very effective ways coaching can help.

I was born in Hong Kong, and spent my first 13 years there. I have worked with several people experiencing the phenomena called 'Third Culture Kids', a name used to describe people who have moved to the UK expecting to feel at home and fit in, but who found it a struggle to settle. There are a number of helpful ways to work with the anxiety and loss of confidence that arises when we don't feel accepted or understood.

The Impostor Syndrome

"Before you tell your life what you intend to do with it, listen for what it intends to do with you. Before you tell your life what truths and values you have decided to live up to, let your life tell you what truths you embody, what values you represent."
