"A single event, a series of events or a set of enduring conditions that exceed the individual’s capacity to tolerate or integrate and/or that are experienced as a threat to life, bodily integrity or sanity."
Dr Janina Fisher Trauma Treatment
I offer an effective and non invasive treatment for trauma (also called PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). It's helpful when someone has experienced a recent traumatic event such as an accident or bullying at work. It is also effective for treating developmental trauma, when someone has experienced neglect or abuse in their early life which later affects their health and relationships. Often people can go for years with no effects, until a 'trigger' can set of a chain of reactive outbursts and difficult to manage feelings, and even bodily responses. Trauma can affect anyone, in response to any event. The symptoms of trauma are often confusing and terrifying for the person experiencing them, and may appear bizarre and out of character to their colleagues and friends. Triggers can create symptoms many years after the original event, often by a seemingly unrelated event. For instance, when a high functioning successful person experiences some particularly harsh feedback or is perhaps involved in an accident, an old trauma can be reactivated, although not remembered in a clear way. This is very typical, but unfortunately it causes the person to feel confused and vulnerable. Trauma is held in the body (rather than as clear visual memories) and some of the symptoms may be strong bodily sensations and accompanying fearful emotions. The treatment I offer does not involve remembering or reliving the details of the traumatic event, in fact this has to be avoided to prevent re-traumatising. Treatment must feel safe, working at the client's own pace and can be literally life-changing. If you think this may be the case for you, or someone you know, feel free to contact me for a confidential conversation. |

Belinda's trauma trainings with the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute
"Sensorimotor Psychotherapy® identifies two general kinds of interrelated psychological issues: developmental and traumatic. Developmental issues result from disturbed early attachment relationships that lead to limiting beliefs about oneself and the world. Post-traumatic stress disorder results from overwhelming experience that remains unintegrated. Early attachment disturbances can lead to a wide variety of adult relational problems, especially when combined with unresolved trauma."

Testimonial for Trauma Work
"It was very helpful for me to be supported when going through a tough time when my actions, or the way I am, were not understood and I was (wrongly) being labelled with a mental illness. You made me understand how my actions were a result of a trauma in my early life, and how I didn't have to blame myself or feel guilty. I gained a lot of insight into myself, an opening, and it is clear which steps I now need to take further. Your support has been invaluable, I was aware that I couldn't turn to just anyone with this subject, and your knowledge about trauma and the body is one that not many people know about. I felt truly respected just the way I am and feel very grateful for the experience. Thank you so much." Anonymous, Artist |
