"The real voyage of discovery lies not in finding new lands, but in seeing with new eyes."

Personal Development Coaching

This is an area which interests most of us. Often when completing an important piece of professional change work with me, clients realise there are other aspects of their inner world that could benefit from some attention, and we go on to do some personal developmental work together. Or it may be that you are aware of some block that holds you back in your work or personal life, and feel ready to shift that block once and for all.

We will work at depth, using models from psychology and psychotherapy in the coaching work as these provide the most effective, safe and sustainable ways to develop insight and enable transformational changes. This doesn't mean it becomes therapy, only that we are using some useful tools from another change discipline.

A friendly note on Personal Change: If you're aware of a problem, but are only interested in fixing the symptoms without uncovering the causes, I'm probably not your ideal coach. For personal change to be sustained, a psychological depth of understanding is essential and it's not sufficient to just decide to change your behaviour.

Developmental Coaching is helpful if you ever
  • Feel like you are about to get found out
  • Feel not good enough
  • Become aware of a self critical inner voice
  • Wish to develop a compassionate approach
  • Need to develop resilience against harsh self-judgement and feelings of shame
  • Wish to develop a mindful approach
  • Would like to deepen your felt sense or the sense of deeply knowing what to do

Please click below for more details on how we will work with specific developmental areas:
  • Quieting the inner critic
  • Resolving feelings of shame
  • Working with impostor syndrome feelings
  • Developing mindfulness practices
  • Using a compassionate approach

Trauma Treatment
A more specialist area of personal development I offer is an effective and non invasive treatment for trauma (also called PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). It's helpful when someone has experienced a recent upsetting event such as a car accident or bullying at work. It is also effective for treating developmental trauma, when someone has experienced neglect or abuse in their early life which later affects their confidence, health and relationships. The symptoms of trauma are often confusing and frightening for the person experiencing them, and may appear bizarre and out of character to their colleagues and friends.

Trauma can happen to anyone, in response to any event where the body feels at threat. The purpose of the treatment is to stabilise and provide clients with somatic resources in order to then process the trauma safely. Trauma is held in the body, so the treatment does not require the client having to speak in detail about the event, which can cause re-traumatisation.

For more information on how the treatment works please visit the Trauma Treatment page.
If you think this may be the case for you, or someone you know, feel free to contact me for a confidential conversation.
